"Speaking About Our Land: Nm'tginen" Website To Be LAUNCHED JUNE 30, 2009

The MMS, in partnership with Canadian Culture Online, have developed an engaging website that will feature collections of our audio, video, photographs and stories about the Mi’gmaq of Gespe'gewa'gi and our use of land and water. This site is geared towards the youth and provides an intimate look into the cycles of life, from the Mi’gmaq perspective. The website will be launched on June 30th nationwide! Employment Opportunity - Research Analyst
Title: Research Analyst

Location: Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat
–Research Department
Listuguj, QC

Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full time, Day, 35 Hours per week

Salary: $36 700

Education: Post secondary diploma in business administration, Native Studies or Communications.

Research methodology; library research; bibliographies; and memoranda reports

Language Proficiency: Speak, Read and Write English and have some basic understanding of French.
Mi’gmaq is an asset.

Business Equipment: Windows; E-Mail; Microsoft Office Word and Excel;

Summary Description: Duties include assisting the Director of Research in the gathering, analyzing, and preparing research data for written reports and/or community presentations;

Providing support for ongoing research projects by retrieving and reviewing studies to include in reviews and reports;

Performing library research on specified topics and provide timely synthesis of material in the form of bibliographies, abstracts, and/or reports;

Prepare office documents such as minutes, work plans, correspondence and communications for various research projects, as required;


Essential Skills:
Must be a team player;
Organization skills;
Paying attention to detail;
Relevant writing skills

Description: Parmi les tâches le titulaire aidera le Directeur de la recherche à recueillir, à analyser et à préparer les données de recherche pour les rapports écrits et/ou les présentations à la communauté;

Appuiera les projets de recherche en cours en récupérant et en révisant les études à inclure dans les sommaires et les rapports;

Effectuera de la recherche documentaire sur des sujets précis et préparera des synthèses des informations au moyen de bibliographies, de résumés et/ou de rapports dans le délai requis;

Préparera des documents administratifs tels les procès-verbaux, les plans de travail, la correspondance et les communications pour les différents projets de recherche selon le besoin;


Qualités essentielles:
Doit pouvoir travailler en équipe;
Être capable d’organiser son travail;
Porter attention aux détails;
Avoir les habiletés d’écriture pertinentes

Free transportation to and from Gesgapegiag will be available.



A bus will transport community members from Gesgapegiag to Listuguj during the following days and times: August 7th Thursday: Departs Gesgapegiag at 8:00 am (QC time) Departs Listuguj at 4:30pm (NB Time) and Arrives 4:30 (QC Time) August 8th Friday: Departs Gesgapegiag at 8:30 am (QC time) Departs Listuguj at 8:30pm (NB time) and Arrives in Gesgapegiag at 8:30pm (QC time)

***Please note that the bus will depart and arrive at the Gesgapegiag Church parking lot on all days.
